Description "The Place I Love", written 15 September 1998. |
||
| Background For six months in 1996, I lived and worked in England, courtesy of the United States Air Force. While there, I traveled around England, and to Scotland, Ireland, and Germany. The trip left an indelible impression on me, and I will always treasure my memories of it. Upon my travels, however, I found that there is indeed no place like home. |

On yonder shores of British isles I stood and watched the restless sea Upon the beach the waters lapped They called my name, they beckoned me Beyond those waves did lie the world Its varied splendor calling so I saw it all, both far and near All of the places I may go Reflecting from the waters blue A passing cloud, it caught my eye I raised my head and looked above I spread my wings, and thought to fly Beyond the sky, there lay the stars Their pulsing brilliance spoke my name I drifted through the galaxies Yet somehow it was not the same While on my odyssey I searched Through all the cosmos far and wide Yet back to earth I slowly fell To Britain, gazing at the tide I realized while standing there That all the places I could roam As wonderful as they may be Not one of them is quite like home I took a breath and swept my view From earth beneath to sky above I closed my eyes and made a wish "Return me to the place I love" |
